Getting Started in Kena Bridge of Spirits: Cave Tutorial

After a short introductory text, you will very quickly be in command of the valiant Kena. The long and immersive tutorial begins. Pressing L1 triggers one of Kena’s basic actions: Pulse. The magical waves that the teenager projects around her bounce from rocks to rocks. After a few steps to follow a spirit, you will come to a lake. Along the way, you will have the impression that there are several roads and that it is possible to go wrong at one point or another. Don’t panic, you are in a hallway and there are currently no collectibles to collect. Stand on the small platform in the middle of the lake and use the pulse to light the stone above the large door in front of you. It will open.

Behind it, your first enemies await you. The fights are pretty rudimentary. Here is the list of keys:

• R1 for a light attack;
• R2 for a heavy attack (loadable);
• R3 to focus the camera on an enemy;
• Round for a somersault (dodge);
• L1 for the shield.

Once the small skeletons have turned to dust, all you have to do is use the pulse on the rocks to the left and right of the room you are in. This activates a slab that will open a new door even more massive than the previous one.

Behind this door is the exit to the cave you are in. Welcome to the forest.

The burps and the forest: discovery of platforming mechanics in Kena Bridge of Spirits

After a few steps you will come across two child spirits playing with a little black creature. Once the cutscene has passed, use Pulse to lift this creature into the air. Don’t wait for it to fall and move towards it to retrieve it with triangle.

Once your very first Rot in the porch, use the slab to reveal a stone staircase. Note that it is possible to gain momentum by running with R3 to jump further and go much higher thanks to a double-jump (it is enough to press again on cross in the air).

Here you are in a clearing that looks much larger than the corridor proposed by the cave at the beginning. Do not follow the spirits of children by running like crazy, you risk missing all the Burps to collect in this level. There are 5 (6 if you count the one right in front of you at the entrance to the clearing):

• The next Rot is a few steps further. Walk along the right wall and you will come to a small platform high up right next to a waterfall. The Rot is there.
• Continue your journey by jumping on the only platform accessible from where you are. You will arrive on a tree trunk which overlooks the main road. This tree trunk provides access to the 3rd Rot of the level.
• You can finally move forward a little towards the children you are supposed to pursue. They sink through a stone frame on the left of the main path. You then arrive in a cul-de-sac at the end of which a chest awaits you. Open it and the 4th Rot is yours.
• Turn around and go back at the foot of the waterfall. There you will see a platform to place yourself on to trigger an impulse. A small stone course rises from the lake in front of you. With a few double-jumps, you find yourself behind the waterfall and in front of the last Rot in the area.

Once all your companions are recovered, you unlock the actions of Rot (L2, then square). Head towards the “corrupted” area, eaten away by a sort of red dust. Throw the Bursts on the flower in the middle of the corrupt tree, then knock it down in one push. This dead trunk now serves as a bridge!

Don’t forget to pick up the blue crystals!

The corridor continues. After one or two small jumps, the game teaches you how to hang on to the walls. All the white edges can be used as hanging points. This is where the zone ends, you are faced with new opponents to fight! To end this fight, just place a Rot on the flower causing enemies to appear in a loop.

This little moment of action serves as an introduction to new combat actions, in which Burps play a major role. After dealing a few blows to your opponents, the Burps will have enough Courage to give you a hand. The drops of Courage are the little orange shards to be found all over the world. To recover them, one push is enough. Just above your life bar, orange circles have just appeared. When a circle is full, you can use a Rotate action. Above all, do not deprive yourself.

Following this little moment of action, the Rots tutorial continues! The game now teaches you that these cute little spirits are strong enough to lift big rocks! Use this new ability to place the rock under a white ledge, which grants you access to a ruined house.

We also spotted a strange bush in a recess to the right of the stone to be lifted. We do not know if the fruits of this bush are a valuable collectible to collect or a simple piece of scenery.

Once hoisted to the top of your flat rock, you arrive on the roof of a small ruin. There, you can interact with 2 objects in your environment which allow you to earn blue crystals. First there is a little barrel that shines, directly on your right when you arrive. Approach him to open it. Then you will come face to face with a fox statue. Straighten it with the Burps and you the crystals!

Once your precious change is in your pocket, climb onto the platform located right next to where you arrived. Gain momentum with R3 and double-jump to reach the ruin opposite!

Under your feet there is a new barrel to open and a wooden door to move. Do not borrow it, it is of no use other than allowing you to get back to where you are more quickly in the event of a fall. Once the barrel is open, climb onto the small platform which provides access to the rest of the adventure with a well-felt double-jump.

Here you are in front of your first boss. We’re at the normal difficulty level, and you see it can be folded in half a minute, even without playing very well. Just trigger your shield at the right time (be careful, it will only hold 3 hits) then use Burps to immobilize your opponent. Once that’s done, all that’s left is to nag.
