News culture Harry Potter: Lord Voldemort’s Origins Fan Film Is Finally Available

After 4 years of intense work and a budget of nearly 62,000 euros, the 80 or so volunteers of the fan film project on the youth of Lord Voldemort, the one whose name should not be mentioned, see their hard work finally bearing fruit: The House of Gaunt: Lord Voldemort Origins movie is now available for free streaming on the Vimeo platform.

Annoncé en 2017, The House of Gaunt : Lord Voldemort Origins (available here) is the daring project of two French people in love with the literary saga of JK Rowling, Joris Faucon Grimaud and Thomas Rokita, who decide to tell the tortured youth of Tom Riddle (Tom Riddle in their original version), the one who would later become the archenemy of Harry Potter and the main antagonist of the series, Lord Voldemort.

Impacted by the Covid epidemic, production spanned nearly 4 years, and involved no less than 82 people, entirely volunteers. The 62,000 euros collected with the help of several participatory financing were entirely put at the service of the project and in particular the special effects, to manage to transcribe the vision of the two authors.. Joris Faucon-Grimaud and Thomas Rokita have also opted for an unofficial storyline based primarily on the elements recounted in the 6th book, The Half-Blood Prince. A way for them to reappropriate the universe they admire but also to prove themselves in a difficult to access environment in the best possible way:

When I started my first production, I wondered if it was better to do an original screenplay at the risk of not convincing or to try to reach a lot of people via a “fanfilm” in a world that I adore. This film is therefore a way to please fans as well as to build up a CV, to prove myself, especially in fantastic cinema, a genre still underdeveloped in France. Joris Faucon Grimaud, director, via The world

It is true that French genre cinema has for a long time been confined to a few one-off releases, while the directors representing it have often preferred to pursue a career abroad following a first success. Today, however, it is experiencing a new measured youth that offers a little welcome diversity on the French cinematographic landscape, and even French-speaking.. We can only hope that this will benefit our two young authors, who will undoubtedly have been able to make people talk about them, as evidenced by the viewing figures of their trailer.
