News hardware Nintendo Switch: The manufacturer expresses himself on the lower price of the “classic” model
This morning, Nintendo surprised everyone by formalizing the price drop for the classic model of its Switch. At that time, we suspected that the arrival of Switch OLED had something to do with this price reduction, but Nintendo had not expressed itself.
It is now done, since our colleagues fromEurogamer were able to obtain a statement from a Nintendo spokesperson who explains that the new price of 270 to 280 € reflects the current exchange rate and the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch OLED model. The new rate is considered appropriate, and Nintendo should quickly provide a guide to retail resellers.
Nintendo of Europe changes the European selling price of the Nintendo Switch console to retailers. More than four and a half years after its first release, the Nintendo Switch continues to have strong sales momentum in Europe. After carefully evaluating various factors, including exchange rates in Europe and the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch – OLED model, we have decided that now is the time to change the European selling price of the Nintendo Switch.
However, Nintendo does not set the resale price of consoles. This is the prerogative of retailers, to whom Nintendo sells the hardware at a certain price, effectively imposing a minimum price since a retailer cannot sell for less than he bought. The company therefore advises to check the indicative prices on the official Nintendo website, then to compare it with the price offered by the retailer. On the british site, we can read :
The final price to consumers is determined by the retailers. As a guide, we recommend consumers to check with local retailers for their prices. In My Nintendo Store, which is Nintendo’s own retail channel, the price of each console in the Nintendo Switch family is now: Nintendo Switch Lite – £ 199.99, Nintendo Switch – £ 259.99, Nintendo Switch – OLED model – £ 309.99.
We changed the prices ahead of the launch of Nintendo Switch – OLED Model so that the price differences between each model in Nintendo’s own retail channel, My Nintendo Store, are what Nintendo deems appropriate for its own store.
In France, the price of the different Nintendo Switches is therefore: € 219.99 (recommended retail price) for the Switch Lite, € 270-280 for the “classic” Switch, and € 249.99 for the OLED Switch.
