The aftermath of Lionel Messi is still just as difficult for FC Barcelona, which will lose its main sponsor at the end of the season.
After the departure of Lionel Messi, its emblem for the past 15 years, the FC Barcelona does he still dream? The question may arise as Joan Laporta, the president of the club, must rebuild the Catalan club, with very limited financial means.
The situation will not get better because Rakuten, the shirt sponsor of the Blaugranas, will cease his partnership with the Catalan club at the end of the season, at the end of his contract. It’s a big blow, because the Japanese firm has paid 55 million euros per season since 2017 (but only 30 million euros last year because of the Covid).
Barça will have to find a new shirt sponsor. According to Sport, there is no shortage of tracks. But Laporta and his men are not at all certain that they will find a contract that will be so remunerative. The health crisis does not help, and the departure of Messi even less. And this is not the only problem, since Beko, the sponsor who appears on the sleeve of the shirt of the Blaugranas, will also cease his partnership with the Catalan institution.
To find new income, Barca could be tempted to sign a naming contract for Camp Nou, which would thus lose its historic name.
Rakuten’s contract with Barça expires at the end of this season. The club are now looking for a new option to become their main partner. The sleeve sponsor (currently Beko) will also be replaced.
